USB Rifle Borescopes for Accurate Barrel Inspection and Cleaning

Compact borescopes that plug into your phone or computer

A USB rifle borescope uses the screen you already carry. Plug the probe into your phone, tablet or computer, slide it into the barrel, and check for fouling, pitting or rust — then save the photos on your device.

The USB-C models also connect to iPhone 15 and newer. Want a stand-alone tool instead? See rifle borescopes with a screen or all rifle borescopes.

Buying guide

How to Choose a USB Rifle Borescope

All four models use a 0.2 in (5 mm) probe that fits .22 caliber and larger, so the choice comes down to these points.

  1. Check Your Device First

For iPhone 15 and newer or a USB-C iPad, choose the NTG100H-C or NTG100-C — they include a USB-C cable. The NTG100H works with Android phones and Windows or Mac computers, but not with iPhone or iPad.

  2. Rigid, Flexible or Folding Probe

A 26 in rigid probe is the easiest to aim inside the bore. The 45 in flexible probe reaches further into long barrels. The NTG200H folding probe stays rigid in use and packs down to 14 in.

  3. Fixed or Adjustable Focus

The NTG100 models have fixed focus at 0.4–0.6 in, set for the bore wall in the side-view mirror. The NTG200H adds manual focus from 0.4 in to infinity for looking down the bore.

  4. Mirrors in the Box

The NTG100H-C and NTG100-C include six side-view mirrors for .22 to .40 caliber and the NTG200H includes five; the NTG100H comes with three 0.2 in mirrors for .22 caliber and up.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about USB rifle borescopes and the devices they work with.

What is a USB rifle borescope?

A USB rifle borescope connects to smart devices via a USB cord. USB cords are universal and work on many different devices including Android mobile devices, PC computers, and Apple OSX computers. The original USB models will not work with Apple iOS phones or tablets, but the USB-C models on this page (NTG100H-C and NTG100-C) connect directly to iPhone 15 and newer.

All of the USB borescopes on this collection page require them to be used with another device that has a screen, memory, and power source. These are not stand-alone devices, however they can be upgraded to a stand-alone device with the purchase of a monitor and the appropriate cable from our accessory page.

What is a USB rifle borescope used for?

A USB rifle borescope allows you to inspect the internal parts of a rifle or gun. The tool has a tiny LED-illuminated camera you can insert into the barrel for easier inspection. Also, the camera allows you to take images and videos for troubleshooting purposes.

Additionally, a rifle borescope can help clean and identify fouling in the barrel, check for defects, and inspect inside of cases and other gun parts. You can do this all with a camera that offers clear and crisp images along with close-up views of smaller parts. A borescope can save you time and money as a smart diagnostic tool, improving your sight of a rifle while preventing the need to take the weapon apart.

How do I get my rifle borescope USB to work?

The first step to getting your rifle borescope to work is to make sure the phone, tablet or laptop you will use is charged — a USB borescope has no battery of its own and runs from the device it is plugged into. Next, connect the USB cord to the smart device or laptop of your choice. Finally, open the app or simply plug and play with the correct devices such as a MacBook or Chromebook.

Once the device is connected to your smart device or laptop, insert the borescope into the rifle slowly and with care. Wait for the camera to come into focus, and now you can snap pictures and videos. Once finished, wash the borescope and store all of the parts in a cool, dry place, preferably in a storage container.

How do I use my USB rifle borescope with the camera app?

When using a USB rifle borescope with an Android phone or tablet, you will need to use it with an app. The app will provide you with a control interface for the borescope and also give you a place to store and view photos and video that you have taken with the device. For Windows PCs, you can use the program simply called "Camera." On Apple computer you can use Teslong USB borescopes with the program called "Photo Booth."

What is the best rifle borescope?

The NTG100H 26-inch Rigid Rifle Borescope offers the best set of features for a very affordable price. It includes a 26-inch rigid probe ready to fit in any .22 caliber or larger barrel. Furthermore, the device has an LED ring light, three side mirrors, and it’s compatible with most devices except for Apple iPhone and iPad. If you use an iPhone 15 or newer, choose the NTG100H-C, which adds a USB-C cable and six side-view mirrors.

How do I connect a USB borescope rifle camera to my laptop?

To connect the rifle borescope to your laptop, you simply need to plug it into the USB port. Then turn on the device and open the appropriate app - Camera on a PC, Photo Booth on a Mac. Make sure to read all of the instructions thoroughly for an easier experience.

Do USB rifle borescopes work with iPhone?

Yes, with the right model. The NTG100H-C and NTG100-C include a USB-C cable that connects directly to iPhone 15 and newer, as well as USB-C iPads and Android phones. They also come with a USB-A/Micro-USB cable for computers and older Android phones. The original NTG100H does not work with iPhone or iPad; for wireless viewing on any iPhone, see the Wi-Fi rifle borescopes.

USB or a borescope with a screen: which should I buy?

A USB borescope costs less, packs small and shows the bore on a phone or computer screen you already own. A rifle borescope with a screen is self-contained, with its own monitor, battery and 32 GB card, so nothing needs to be connected at the bench or range.

Which USB rifle borescope probe should I choose?

The 26 in rigid probe (NTG100H, NTG100H-C) is the easiest to aim inside the bore. The 45 in flexible probe (NTG100-C) reaches further into long barrels and comes with a zippered soft case. The NTG200H Focus and Fold probe adds manual focus from 0.4 in to infinity and folds to 14 in.

Tell us which phone or computer you use and we'll confirm the right cable and probe for you.

USB Borescopes for Rifles and Pistols

A USB rifle borescope is the most compact way to see inside a barrel. The probe carries a 1.0 megapixel camera with six adjustable LEDs; the cable plugs into your phone, tablet or computer, which becomes the screen and stores your photos and video. With no monitor or battery of its own, a USB borescope fits in a pocket or range bag.

Which Devices Work

The NTG100H-C and NTG100-C include a USB-C cable for iPhone 15 and newer, USB-C iPads and Android phones, plus a USB-A/Micro-USB cable for Windows computers and older Android phones. The original NTG100H works with Android, Windows and Mac. On Windows, use the built-in Camera app; on a Mac, use Photo Booth.

Choosing a Probe

Pick the 26 in rigid probe for easy aiming, the 45 in flexible probe for longer barrels, or the NTG200H Focus and Fold for adjustable focus and a probe that folds to 14 in. Every probe is 0.2 in (5 mm) across and fits .22 caliber and larger rifles and pistols.
