For instance, a night vision camera with a visible light sensor can’t see water leaks, overheating capacitors, or calculate the temperature of a surface from a distance the way a thermal camera can.

How far can you see with a thermal monocular?

Obviously, it will depend on many factors to clearly identify something at a distance, but the temperatures of the object in contrast to that of the surrounding environment is particularly important.
