Prolonging the Life of Your Endoscope or Borescope: Expert Tips for Maintenance, Storage, and Use

Maximizing the lifespan of your equipment: A guide to Proper Maintenance, Repair, and Use

Borescopes and industrial endoscopes can be used for mechanical inspection, car repair, plumbing fixes, electrical installs, house DIY, wall upgrades, HVAC maintenance, and more. They are excellent tools for conducting non-invasive inspections of small areas, like looking in the combustion chamber of an engine through the spark plug hole, or the inside of a wall without damaging the drywall. Here, we will address some best practices for endoscope maintenance and borescope maintenance that will keep your inspection camera working for a long time.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Modern industrial endoscopes and borescopes are digital cameras so in order for them to perform the best they need to be cleaned regularly, usually after each time you use them. The most important part of the camera to clean is the lens, which is typically located at the end of the inspection probe. Aside from that, industrial endoscopes and borescopes don’t have many moving parts to service. If they have a removable probe, do check to make sure the contacts inside the connector are kept clean and dry. Also wipe any dirt or dust off of the screen to ensure you have the best view.

Proper Storage

Digital borescopes and industrial endoscopes are digital cameras so they need to be treated and stored with some care. Store the inspection camera in it’s case if it came with one, and keep it in a dry place away from heat sources when you aren’t using it. If you aren’t going to use it for a long time, be sure to recharge the battery every 3-4 months to ensure it doesn’t discharge completely, which could affect the battery performance.

Repair and Calibration

It usually is not necessary to calibrate any Teslong industrial endoscopes or borescopes, however if one is not working to your satisfaction, customer service representative are ready and able to talk you through any trouble shooting or repair issues that you may have with your product. Proper Use

Always follow the manufacturer guidelines found in the manual when using a borescope or industrial endoscope. Some of the most important points to pay attention to include:

  • Don’t coil, or bend,  the camera probe into too tight of a radius - doing so can damage the probe.
  • Teslong camera probes are IP67 rated for dust and water ingress so they should be safe to submerge in water for short periods of time. Do not submerge the probe in solvents like isopropyl alcohol, paint thinner, or gasoline.
  • Teslong camera probes are small digital camera and as such should not be exposed to high temperatures or open flames.
  • If you aren’t going to use your device for a long time, be sure to recharge the battery every 3-4 months to ensure it doesn’t discharge completely, which could affect the battery performance.
